Eastlink High Speed Wireless Internet Technology and Installation Steps

How it Works

Wireless Technology

Eastlink High Speed Wireless Internet is delivered through Motorola Canopy technology, which is a fixed-wireless Internet solution. A signal is transmitted from the tower to a Wireless Antenna located on your home. The signal is then sent from that antenna through an Ethernet cable to an Internet modem that is connected to your computer.

Wireless Antenna

To deliver wireless service to a home or business, the customer must have a wireless antenna attached to the premises, with an ethernet cable running from the wireless antenna to the customer's computer. Click here for photos and a more detailed description of the Wireless Antenna.

Basic Installation for Eastlink High Speed Wireless Internet

Step 1:  An Eastlink Authorized Agent (‘the Installer’) will locate a suitable place on the exterior of the home/business to fix the wireless antenna. The customer will then be required to sign a Waiver of Indemnity and Release.
Step 2:  The Installer will run an outdoor cable from the base of the wireless antenna into the home/business. The installation will meet all Government codes and regulations. On the interior, the Installer will run cable to your computer’s location. Typically, a small hole is required to be drilled in the outside of the wall to allow entrance of the cable.
Step 3:  The Installer will then hookup a 24 VDC Adapter and AC Power Adapter.
Step 4:  The Installer will test the system using their laptop to ensure the signal strength and Internet browsing is operating properly.

*Standard for any network, wired or wireless, we do expect to have a relatively small number of challenging installations due to the unique topography and very remote locations.

While the vast majority of installations are standard, in some cases, a standard installation may not be possible.

In these case we evaluate signal strength and assess what installation solution will work for the customer. Installation solutions could include a rooftop installation, a pole on the customer property (as agreed to by the customer), or a repeater tower nearby to amplify the signal.
